As Interior Minister and a vocal critic of the CTASIO, I have found the announcement of the organisation being in crisis no surprise.
I believe that Pinang can, and must do better than sharing an inactive organisation with known trouble causers. We recently voted to legislate the referendum result allowing us to begin discussions with the Kermadec Union regarding entry when the Union's charter has been agreed by the original members. Also, the GUM has adopted a more public stance since the election of Adam Belcher, of Adammia. These two organisations would offer more to Pinang's future than remaining in the CTASIO. Also, we must increase our energies in improving our country. In the next few months, the Interior Ministry will be publishing an "One Pinang Masterplan", a list of vital reforms to preserve the future of Pinang.
So, from 18:36 Pinang time, I am declaring an parliamentary vote on our future within the CTASIO. Either to remain or to leave. As it is an landmark decision, if the vote is a tie; a referendum will be held and the Interior Ministry would be lobbying for a "Leave" vote.
The future of Pinang is what should matter here, not the CTASIO pact. Our reputation has grown over the last few months because of resilience in the face of crisis. However, to be a successful country, we must show more than resilience. We need to be strong and respectable on the international stage, something the CTASIO doesn't give us
